Costa Maya and Mahahual from above
The following pictures of Mahahual and
Costa Maya were taken during our excursion test flight. I have
had the pleasure to test various excursions and tours in my life and
have to say that the Airplane flight over Costa Maya was by far one of
the most exciting and beautiful excursions I have experienced in a
long time. Because Mahahual is a very small Town and the air
corridor is currently not as regulated as most Countries the airplane
is able to fly over Cruise Liners and the Port, something that could
never be achieved in other locations. I have never flown over a
cruise liner, the view was simply stunning.

The Airplane is a state of the art
ultra-light and not quite what I expected. When I met the Pilot
he explained aspect if his flight in detail but never did have the
time to go over the airplane specifications due to my eagerness to go
for a flight. After all, the Carnival Inspiration and the Explorer
of the seas were in
Port that day and they happen to be 2 of my favorite cruise liners.
I have cruised on both Ships numerous times and could not wait to see
them from above. The Airplane resembled a Cessna in many ways,
the intricate state of the art controls, gages, safety systems, GPS
systems
and comfortable seating was surprising as I was imagining a feather
weight contraption you often find in Mexico and not a real airplane.
The Airport is really close to the Port
in Costa Maya and we were over the Port very quickly. When I
asked the Pilot if he could bring me close to the cruise liner for
some pictures he laughed and said "Close? Watch this!" He
banked right and flew right over the Port and both Cruise Liners, what
a sight!
We then continued towards Mahahual and
over the reefs and beaches. The water clarity was spectacular,
and so were the beaches. We flew directly over our Beach Break
location and looped over the Town of Mahahual.
Mahahual is a very small Town, viewing
it from above made me realize just how small it really is. We
flew over the bars and restaurants before heading back to the Port and
the Airport.
The entire flight was approximately 30
minutes, I found the airplane very comfortable, very stable, windows
were smartly placed to provide a fantastic view of below, it was by
far an experience of a lifetime.
