Mahahual pictures
The following pictures of Mahahual
where taken during Cruise Ship arrival days as well as a couple
pictures taken during non-Cruise Ship days. The difference
between the two is remarkable as during days without Cruise Liners in
Port the Town of Mahahual turns into a ghost town. The
population of Mahahual is barely 150 people and you might see one car
every 45 minutes. In our office we like to call Mahahual and
Costa Maya "The perfect Cruise Liners playground", virtually crime
free, friendly and un-crowded (on most days) Mahahual was chosen as
our base for excursions for the Port of Costa Maya arrivals.
Passengers can travel from the Port of
Costa Maya to Mahahual in 4 minutes and be taken "back in time" to a
sleeping little Mexican Village. The Town is great for families
with children, the water is very shallow, clean and safe.
Mahahual is turned into a Tourist
playground overnight. Vendors arrive from Chatumal and as far
away as Cancun to sell their Mexican souvenirs on cruise ship arrival
days. Martin pictured above lives in Mahahual, one of the few
inhabitants who lives and works in the Town making his own Jewelry and
wear, you will surely meet him at our Beach Break Party.
Most Beach Bars in Mahahual only open
during Cruise Ship arrival days, some can be very crowded due to
the many arriving Passengers on most arrival days. Our Beach Bar was chosen due to the location
which does not receive many crowds due to it being "around the corner"
from the central Tourism areas. The first picture on the left is
of the "usual beach area" the middle and picture on the right
are of our Beach Break Bar.
Mahahual offers fantastic water
activities, snorkeling being some of the best found in the Caribbean.
Mahahual is part of the Great Maya Reef System which spans from Mexico
to Honduras, making it the second largest Barrier Reef in the World.
